En föreställning fylld av dans och musik inspirerad av Beatrix Potters bildvärld

Som liten flicka i ett viktorianskt England under slutet av 1800-talet förbjöds Beatrix Potter att leka, busa och smutsa ner sig. Hon tog därför sin tillflykt till alla de djursagor hon skapade.

I vuxen ålder gav Beatrix sedan ut ett stort antal barnböcker som blev oerhört populära. Hennes berättelser har iscensatts av Royal Ballet i London med flera.

"Mina föräldrar var stränga. Jag fick inte springa, inte sparka boll, inte hoppa, inte...Jag hade inga kamrater. Jag var ensam mest hela tiden."

Ur pjäsen "Beatrix värld"

Regissör för Beatrix värld är Sven Wagelin Challis, ena hälften av Tittuts konstnärliga ledarduo. Han har bl a regisserat Gossen och kärleken till de tre apelsinerna - Tittuts kritikerrosade samarbete med Operan. Dockor och scenografi skapas av den skickliga dockmakaren Annika Arnell. För de dansanta koreografierna ansvarar koreografen/danspedagogen Jeanette Challis. Tonerna som dockorna dansar till är komponerade av Tittuts flitigt anlitade kompositör Leif Hultqvist. Dockspelarduon består av mimaren Maria Selander och skådespelaren Lisette Merenciana.

THE WORLD OF BEATRIX

The English author Beatrix Potter has written successful children books illustrating imaginative lives of animals. The Tale of Peter Rabbit is one of her well read stories set in the British landscape and country life.  

The World of Beatrix is the first Swedish theatre adaptation depicting various occurrences in the life of the young Beatrix Potter and her imaginative world.

The production is currently in rehearsals at Puppet Theatre Peek-A-Boo in Stockholm, set to have its first original performance in September 6th 2014. 

We have created this blog for everyone keen on following our work in progress. 

A rehearsal inspired by The Tale of Two Bad Mice.

In the play The World of Beatrix, the animal characters Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddle-Duck, Tom Kitten and others are beautifully brought to life as puppets and masks. This exciting story is featured by two energetic actresses who explore the interactions between Beatrix and her imaginative animals through refined physical movements and dance.

The music toys with traditional and contemporary influences.

The Stockholm based children's theatre group Dockteatern Tittut (Puppet Theatre Peek-A-Boo), is a renowned award winning Theatre Company producing professional children's theatre since 1977.

The days all look pretty much the same to little Beatrix.

At Bolton Gardens No 2 in London, England, the old clock of her grandfather's is constantly ticking away, reminding all the family-members of the restrictions of punctuality. It is the end of the 19^th century and in these Victorian times, mainly boys are sent to school, so apart from her younger brother – she's been denied education. The great accomplishment of every day is finding something to do in a home where everything that doesn't count as proper behavior is strictly forbidden.

 It is true that Beatrix had a quite lonesome and isolated childhood. But actually she did not mind being alone. She had her pencils, colors and sheets of paper, and the most extraordinary gift of imagination, that made her drawings come alive, as if her pencil had been a magic stick. Inspired by the luscious green and vivid days at the country side where the family went every summer, Beatrix drew all kinds of animals, and they became her friends.

Soon little Peter Rabbit jumps out of her drawing-sheet and makes mischiefs, and Jeremy, the frog, goes for a dangerous fishing-trip in her bowl of soup... there is no end to the joy of having fun without a care, but the threat of punishment for not behaving or getting in trouble, are always close at hand - just like in the real world.

Varje dag är den andra lik, tycker lilla Beatrix. Där hon bor, på Bolton Gardens nr 2 i London, England, tickar morfars gamla klocka ständigt, påminner om tiden, punktligheten, och den begränsade friheten. Det är sent 1800-tal och i dessa viktorianska tider hade man otur om man var flicka, som Beatrix – för det var pojkarna som fick gå i skolan. Beatrix nekades utbildning, till skillnad från sin yngre bror. Det var en svår uppgift att hitta på någonting att göra varje dag. Det som inte gick under ordentligt uppförande var strängt förbjudet.

Det stämmer att Beatrix var väldigt ensam och isolerad från omvärlden som barn, liksom många andra flickor på den tiden. Men det särskilda med Beatrix var att hon inte alls hade något emot att vara ensam. Hon hade nämligen sina färgpennor och sitt ritblock, och den mest livliga fantasi man kan tänka sig. Pennan blev hennes trollspö och med det väckte hon sina teckningar till liv! Inspirationen kom från de gröna, härliga somrarna på landsbygden, dit familjen åkte varje sommar. Där fanns alla möjliga sorters djur som Beatrix tecknade, och de blev hennes vänner.

Plötsligt hoppar lilla kaninen Pudding upp ur hennes ritblock och ställer till med bus, och grodan Jeremy ger sig ut på en farlig fisketur – i Beatrix soppskål!

Det tycks inte finnas något slut på den bekymmerslösa leken, i Beatrix värld, där allt äntligen är tillåtet. Men hoten om straff för dåligt uppförande eller faran för att hamna i knipa är ständigt närvarande, så också i verkligheten...
